As Wim said, a lot of the locals haved moved out of Venice as prices soared and people with the money bought places as second homes. It is sad that the wealthy have such an effect on so many places. Judging by the washing someone still manages to resist selling out.

Food for thought indeed...and beautiful photo :)
Places like Venice must be extremely expensive to keep up and it takes a lot of money and investment to maintain a place like this.
Unfortunately if there was no wealth, there would be nothing but poverty and decay, and only the powerful (governments) would control all the wealth and reap the most benefit from it leaving but scraps for the rest of us.
The wealthy also employ the rest of us.
I don't begrudge anyone their wealth if they've worked hard and taken risks to obtain it.
Their wealth winds up back into the economy when they spend it giving people work. The contractor they hire to fix their homes and install their Marble floors. The company that manufactures those floors, the distributors who move the goods even the truckers who transport them, and the sales person who sold the product to the contractor, the clerks who do the bookkeeping for all of the above. On and on down the line.
Sorry to have rambled.
I have really enjoyed these beautiful photos.
This is a perfect postcard. Love the composition, shadows and muted colors. Really nice.
I agree with Laurie, but the rich people, having workes for their money or no, often take away the soul of a place. They move around in their own small circles and do not take place in the everyday life that an old place like Venice made so very special.
I admire your photo, Jasp!
Wow! wouldnt wanna drop any washing!
